An Overview -
From David Ogrin -
Executive Director,
CTJGA
This is the story
about the Central
Texas Junior Golf
Association and
CTJGA Junior Team
Golf.
Last spring when I
created the Bandit
Raccoon golf team I
was looking for a
“league” in which to
play. I had my team
join US Junior Team
golf a creation of a
pro in North Texas.
USJTG was, and still
is, a good idea.
Unfortunately, USJTG
disappeared leaving
me with a team and
no real place to
play.
In July, with the
closing of Sundance
Golf Course here in
New Braunfels the
position of
executive director
for the CTJGA became
open. The board of
directors approached
me, and I said yes.
The board handed me
a vehicle to create
competitions for
kids. Competition
is all what I am
about. So on
October 23 of last
year I put out a
trial run. 80 kids
showed up. That
said to me Team Golf
not only was a good
idea, but viable.
A big flaw in the
USJTG system is that
USJTG tried to
collect all the
revenues and pay all
the bills. The
CTJGA has corrected
that. Another flaw
was that USJTG
appealed to the kids
to find coaches.
CTJGA has corrected
that as well as this
email is sent to you
the professional and
teacher. It is you
that has a vested
interest in seeing
your junior clients,
junior members, or
junior customers get
playing time to work
on the instruction
you give them.
The CTJGA has no
interest and it is
none of our business
how you put together
your junior golf
team. Our business
has become putting
on the events. Our
business is only
receiving entry
fees, paying green
fees, and buying
trophies. The rest
is up to you.
The CTJGA vision of
CTJGA Junior Team
golf is simple.
CTJGA Team Golf is
interclub
competition centered
around teachers of
golf and their
clients. You the
teacher are the most
important cog. I
urge you to gather
your kids, organize
them and send them
out to represent you
and your facility.
The CTJGA mission is
to provide a place
for them to play at
as reasonable of a
cost as we can get.
Here are a few
simple ground rules:
> A team is five
players and scoring
is like the NCAA,
best four out of
five scores count.
> Play is on a
scratch basis and
kids are handicapped
with yardage
allowance based on
age.
> You register your
team through the
CTJGA for each event
and pay on game day.
> You may enter as
many distinct teams
as you wish first
come first serve.
> Kids walk but we
use common sense in
shuttling when
available.
> If a team is short
and there are single
players available
the singles will be
placed on teams as
guests.
> Any help by you in
assisting with
organization, rules,
and marshalling is
appreciated.
> The CTJGA does not
buy lunch; spectator
carts are the
responsibility of
the spectator;
charging for range
balls is at the
discretion of the
facility; no
practice rounds are
promised.
Thank you all so
much for your
involvement.
The next CTJGA Team
Golf Match is Sunday
February 19 at 1:00
at Republic. Entry
fee is $30 per
player. To enter,
email me your team
members’ names,
phone numbers, and
emails if you have
them.
Keep posted at
www.texasjuniorgolfer.com.
As you might expect
I am making this up
as I go. I do not
have all the
answers. Feel free
to give me
constructive
criticism. All the
best!
